Why was Pfizer fined for unethical behavior, while the government agents who enabled it were not? It's not surprising that a profit seeking corporation would adapt to a permissive regulatory environment. The real problem is the bureaucrats who accept the bribes. They're seldom punished, nor even called out by the corrupt media. The bureaucrats benefit from bribes, media from generous ad revenue. It's a corrupt process managed by unelected bureaucrat, and ignored by elected government. Replacing the government never affects the bureaucrats. The only solution is shedding bureaucrats by reducing government.

Hassett's book counts the steady increases in regulations under every president until Trump, where the regs actually decreased. Every new reg demands a new army of bureaucrats to enforce it, broadening the power of the state. Every vote for statist candidates adds another nail in the coffin of the republic.
