“Comrades: Beware of the crazy eyes.
Sanpaku is a Japanese term meaning “three whites”. When the sclera (white part of the eye) is visible beneath the iris, it represents physical imbalance and is found in alcoholics, drug addicts, or people who over-consume sugar or grain. When the upper sclera is visible, it is said to be an indication of mental imbalance in people such as psychotics and murderers. In either condition, it is believed that these people attract accidents and violence.
According to the American Psychiatric Association, sociopaths are 3-5% of the population. They are also disproportionately represented in positions of power like government and corporate executives. Once you start seeing the sanpaku eyes, you can’t unsee them. I once had a boss with sanpaku and it was the worst year of my professional life.
