Looks Like Trump Is Backing A Real Loser In Putin...
Heavy-handed autocracy has its limits - the latest example is seen in recent events in Azerbaijan - but other places with cemeteries filling up with war dead from Ukraine are having second thoughts
See this:
In the meanwhile, Trump is doing what Putin wants, in screwing up the US alliance with Europe and destroying the mutual trust that has existed for 80 years - and he’s got four more years to wreak havoc. And as Trump says one thing, then does the opposite, which favors Putin, people are simply going to stop flattering him - or even paying attention to him, because no good result happens. Europe gets screwed either way, so why should they bother? And he hasn’t got any idea about history - which could inform his decisions. Same case for Biden, by the way, he was cowed by Putin’s threats of nuclear war.
It’s ridiculous, it’s the walking away from, the abdication of a leadership role in keeping the world stable - and the results will not make America great, they will diminish it - and even isolate it. And America has been dependent on world trade and co-operation from the outset - cotton and tobacco from the American South was regularly used and traded in the UK and Europe going back to the early 1700s, and the French Army and Navy were instrumental in gaining our independence for us. It’s foolhardy, uninformed, and potentially disastrously bad policy.
And Trump, like Putin, keeps doubling down on what looks more and more like a bad bet - and both are heavy-handed, inward-focussed to a fault, and autocratic - and erratic, they do not seem to learn from failure, Putin in Ukraine, and Trump with his “diplomacy”. It’s a race to figure out who destroys their country first. And the Democrats have no decent alternatives, it’s a failure common to the political class in both Russia and the US. Putin has eliminated all potential alternatives, in the US no potential alternatives seem to exist in either party. And Putin has finally told Trump that Putin’s goal - which is pretty obviously the subjugation and occupation of Ukraine - will not be reached by diplomatic means. Whether this penetrates the sawdust, and neurons firing and result in the obvious connection - at least obvious to anyone with any sense - is anybody’s guess:
“Putin is not serious about peace…” No sh*t? Ya think? It’s time that Trump finally wakes up and smells the horsesh*t from Putin, and starts taking appropriate action, action to defend Ukraine and make it possible for Ukraine to not only stay in the fight, but win - just as the French helped America 250 years ago.
Facilitating might be a better choice of words. By refusing to call naked aggression for what it is. Korea is backing Russia. Whatever wording we use, Trump is pussyfooting around the obvious. Putin is a psychopath who can be detered from his folly only by force, and Trump is not providing that force.
